Land of the Monasteries Trail

Highlights

An easy, family-friendly riverside walk with dramatic views of the famed closed monasteries along the Jordan River — a rare window into a landscape shaped by faith, history, and desert beauty.

Set off from the Baptism Site (Qasr al-Yahud) and follow the marked trail toward the impressive, picturesque monasteries built on the riverbank. These sites have been closed to visitors since the ”Period of Pursuits” in 1967,when the area became restricted.  Follow the route signage to the point where Wadi Qelt crosses the trail, then return the same way.
